Racing
Hey, What is this place?
Well, hello there.
This is a new section of my website where I'll be simply be posting about motor racing!
As a fan for nearly 20 years, I want a nice little outlet to give out my thoughts publicly even if no one will read it.
I'll post stuff relating to series like NASCAR, Formula 1, sports cars, and whatever catches my eye.
The posts here are gonna be a bit smaller that my blog posts.
I figured giving all my racing stuff its own space is a lot better than diluting non-racing stuff on my updated-once-every-two-months blog.
Now, you'll notice that the styling of this page is quite unique. For a long time I've been thinking about giving my website a makeover. I find the current black-and-blue colours a bit dull. I want each page to have its own personality. It does mean a bit of work up front, so I'm doing pages one-by-one.
This page is based on the aesthetic of the old SPEED network! SPEED was a cable TV channel that was all about motorsports. It featured programming for:
- classic or practice/qualfiying sessions for NASCAR
- Broadcasts of F1, IndyCar, Le Mans/Rolex Grand Am, and lesser known series like ARCA or A1GP
- Commentary shows like the Wind Tunnel, NASCAR Race Hub, and SPEED Centre
- Shows all about cars - Unique Whips, Pass Time, Car Warriors just to name a few
This thing was a staple of my upbringing - I can't imagine how many hours I've spent glued to the TV after switching to Channel #43! Unfortunately, SPEED was shut down by FOX and was turned into Fox Sports 1, a cable channel. In Canada, the channel turned into FOX Sports Racing and while it mostly rotated around racing, it's a shell of its former self. Aside from live broadcasts, there are re-runs of shows that have been dead for decades and non-racing stuff like... dog shows, snowboarding, and horse racing. Well, I guess the last part is related to racing... It's been moved to pay TV here and frankly, I don't see the point in putting money into it.
The label was revived in 2026 as branding for a podcast hosted by Will Buxton and Kevin Harvick. While I'm happy to see it back and the podcast is a good listen, SPEED in its glory is never coming back, especially in the days when watching TV is less and less popular. So I wanted this webpage to be a homage to one of the mediums for my early racing fandom and childhood.
Well, that's all I've said for this place. Now pull those belts one more time and Boogity on over the rest of the page!
